From the Editor: Europe Scrambles to Put Together an AI Strategy
The media seems obsessed with the race between The United States and China to dominate artificial intelligence(AI) but what about the rest of the world? In the current climate of AI research and technology, there has been an increasing gap between The US and China and the rest of developed nations and emerging economies. If his trend continues increasing it could lead to disproportional levels of economical inequality.
This week, the European Union unveiled a series of new policies to foment the competitiveness of European AI business against American and Chinese companies. The policies encompass diverse areas ranging from data sharing and governance to AI fairness and anti-bias. It is unclear whether these measures will have any impact but it’s a clear indication of how difficult it has become, even for developed countries, to compete in the field of AI.
Now let’s take a look at the core developments in AI research and technology this week:
AI researchers from DeepMind published a paper proposing a method known as comprehensive transformer that simulates memory in deep learning models.
Microsoft Research published a paper proposing CodeBERT a new model that uses natural language for programming language code search and documentation.
Amazon in Query Rewriting
Amazon AI researchers published a paper proposing a method known as query rewriting go improve spoken conversations
