Every week, my team at Invector Labs publishes a newsletter to track the most recent developments in AI research and technology. You can find this week’s issue below. You can sign up for it below. Please do so, our guys worked really hard on this:
From the Editor
The race between Microsoft, Google, IBM and Amazon for dominating the cloud AI platform space has been intensifying. This week, Amazon dominated the headlines with major announcements during the re:Invent conference. From additions to the SageMaker platform to new services for time-series predictions and personalization, AWS took important steps to differentiate its offering from competitors.
The announcements went beyond AI building blocks and included the release of DeepRacer, a new toolkit to train mini-autonomous vehicles using reinforcement learning. AWS seems to be taking Deep Racer seriously beyond an education toolkit and announced the DeepRacer Cup. The new racing tournament will run throughout 2019 and will allow data scientists can compete using different reinforcement learning models applied to DeepRacer vehicles.
Now let’s take a look at the core developments in AI research and technology this week:
Microsoft Research publish a paper that proposes a technique called Neural Architecture Optimization(NAO) to find the most optimal neural network architecture for a given problem.
IBM AI researchers published a method for recognizing objects in images with a very limited set of examples.
Facebook published a new paper outlining a technique for analyzing images and sounds in noisy environments.
Cool Tech Releases
AWS dominated the news world this week with many announcements, but none came closer to the excitement around AWS Deep Racer. This has to be the coolest mainstream reinforcement learning application until now.
AWS announced many additions to the SageMaker platform including reinforcement learning, on-device deployment, automated data labeling and many others
AWS announced Forecast, a new cloud service for predictions on time series data.
AWS released over 150 machine learning algorithms in its machine learning marketplace.
AWS announced Personalize, a new cloud service that uses AutoML to streamline customized recommendations.
