Famous Modern Math Problems: The Legendre’s Conjecture
One of the most interesting problems in prime number theory.
I recently started an AI-focused educational newsletter, that already has over 125,000 subscribers. TheSequence is a no-BS (meaning no hype, no news etc) ML-oriented newsletter that takes 5 minutes to read. The goal is to keep you up to date with machine learning projects, research papers and concepts. Please give it a try by subscribing below:
Resuming our series about modern mathematical problems, today I would like to cover one of the simplest and most enigmatic conjecture in mathematics. The Legendre’s Conjecture is so simple to explain that is hard to imagine that it has challenged mathematicians for so long. Adrien-Marie Legendre was most of the most important mathematicians of the 19 century whose legacy includes important concept such as Legendre polynomials and Legendre transformation. One of the most famous created by Legendre states that there is always one prime p in the range n² to (n + 1)² where n is any natural number.
